Ben Affleck honors veteran baseball player Derek Jeter
Ben Affleck is no doubt a top-notch Red Sox fan but recently a Boston born actor tried to be friends with rivals. Derek Jeter, a retired Yankees shortstop has managed to do that. Jeter received ESPYS Icon Award by 42-year-old Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor at Los Angeles based annual sports event. 41-year-old Jeter played for Sox’s biggest rivals during his entire sports career. Affleck was recently in news due to his troubled relationship with Jennifer Garner but cameramen spotted him wearing the wedding ring again. Even if Jeter was the enemy, I used to love watching him play, said Affleck while tipping his cap for the baseball legend.
The event was scheduled at Microsoft Theater on July 15 in California. Affleck said that Boston baseball fan are super loyal to home team but they respect other baseball players who play as per rules. Players like Jeter won the game with dignity and took defeat with grace. Due to these qualities, no matter what happened on field, Jeter proved to be a winner. Ben told everyone about the sadness caused due to the exit of Jeter after two decade long career. Affleck thanked veteran player for incredible career and for making the game of baseball better.
The athlete accepted his award graciously and said that he shares special bond with fans and teammates. Being part of sports community is very honorable and important, he further added. On being asked about what kept him going for two decades, Jeter told press that all athletes inspire him to play.
